Kasteel Schaloen

A fairy-tale moated castle in the Geul valley, ringed by free walking country.

Schaloen's towers rise straight out of the meadows between Oud-Valkenburg and Schin op Geul, moat and mill stream fed by the Geul. The castle itself is privately used, but the estate lanes, the watermill and the neighbouring Genhoes castle make this the prettiest short walk in the Heuvelland. Come at golden hour and loop via the Sjaasbergerweg pilgrim chapel.
