Valkenburg Castle Ruins

The Netherlands' only hilltop castle, watching over Valkenburg since the 12th century.

Blown up in 1672, still magnificent: clamber the walls, take in the Geul valley panorama, then descend into town through the secret Velvet Cave passages beneath the ruin.
